About this test
ANA is sensitive but not specific: nearly everyone with lupus is positive, yet so are a meaningful number of healthy people, particularly at low titre. It is a test to order when there is a clinical reason to, not a general screen, and a positive is followed by the ENA panel and anti-dsDNA.
What it measures
- ANA titre
- Staining pattern
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
