About this test

A raised ASO shows the immune system has recently met group A streptococcus. That matters when the question is rheumatic fever or post-streptococcal kidney disease, both of which follow a throat infection by some weeks — by which time the original infection has cleared.

What it measures

  • Antistreptolysin O titre

A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
