About this test
Performed under local anaesthetic at the centre, usually from the back of the pelvis. The aspirate gives cells for morphology and flow work, and the trephine core preserves the marrow architecture, which is what shows infiltration and fibrosis. It is the definitive test when the blood count points to a marrow problem.
