About this test

Nerve conduction studies time signals along the nerve; EMG records electrical activity within the muscle with a fine needle. Together they localise the problem — nerve root, individual nerve, or muscle itself — which is what a scan alone often cannot do. Standard for carpal tunnel syndrome and diabetic neuropathy.

What it measures

  • Conduction velocity and amplitude in motor and sensory nerves
  • Distal latency and F-waves
  • Spontaneous and voluntary muscle activity on EMG

A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
