About this test
Some medicines stop working below a certain blood level and become toxic just above it, leaving very little room in between. Levels are checked at a defined point in the dosing cycle — usually the trough, immediately before the next dose — so the timing of the sample is part of the test.
What it measures
- Digoxin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, valproic acid
- Lithium
- Vancomycin and other antibiotic levels
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
