About this test

CA 19-9 rises in pancreatic and bile duct cancers but also whenever the bile ducts are obstructed for any reason, including gallstones. A small proportion of people cannot produce it at all, so a normal result does not exclude disease.

What it measures

  • Serum CA 19-9

A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
