About this test

Echo shows the heart beating in real time and measures the ejection fraction, the single most important number in heart failure. It also assesses the valves, the chamber sizes and the sac around the heart. It takes about thirty minutes and involves no radiation.

What it measures

  • Ejection fraction and wall motion
  • Valve structure and function
  • Chamber dimensions and pericardium

A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
