About this test

G6PD deficiency is common across South Asia and usually silent until something triggers it — some antimalarials and antibiotics, and broad beans. Knowing the status in advance prevents an avoidable haemolytic crisis, which is why it is checked before primaquine and in newborn jaundice.

What it measures

  • Red cell G6PD enzyme activity

A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
