About this test

Reticulocytes are red cells released within the last day or two. In anaemia the count separates a marrow that cannot produce — from iron, B12 or marrow failure — from one producing hard against blood loss or cell destruction. It is also how response to iron treatment is confirmed.

What it measures

  • Reticulocyte percentage
  • Absolute reticulocyte count

A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
